Jean de La Fontaine’s fables are famous worldwide and still enjoyed today by many people. They can be used in the classroom as a pleasurable and relaxing way to teach English to young learners and to encourage them to read. Therefore, it is a good idea to set up a reading corner in the classroom where pupils can either move their chairs to or sit comfortably on cushions and listen to stories being read to them. Because of the pupils’ age, it is better to choose a simplified version of the fable so as not to demotivate the ones who might find it more difficult to understand the original.
